Dear COPD Community,

We are pleased to share an important press release from the Global Allergy & Airways Patient Platform (GAAPP) announcing the formation of the African & Middle East Alliance (AMEA), a regional coalition of 16 member organisations, including the COPD Foundation of South Africa.

This alliance represents a historic step in addressing the significant burden of respiratory diseases across Africa and the Middle East. AMEA’s goals include:

-
Raising awareness of respiratory and allergic conditions and the importance of early diagnosis.
-
Encouraging medical consultation for individuals experiencing symptoms.
-
Advocating for improved access to care and treatment.
-
Supporting increased investment in research, advocacy, and medical education

The first AMEA Regional Meeting will take place on 23 August 2025 in Lagos, Nigeria, bringing together organisations from across the region to collaborate on strategies for advancing lung health.

As the COPD Foundation of South Africa, we are honoured to be part of this broader alliance and committed to helping extend its reach. By standing alongside our peers in AMEA, we continue our mission to empower patients, carers, and healthcare providers in the fight against COPD and other respiratory diseases.
